How to Celebrate Women’s Health Week in Your Pharmacy

National Women’s Health Week is right around the corner!

National Women’s Health Week kicks off each year on Mother’s Day, and serves to empower women to make their health a priority. This year, National Women’s Health Week will run from Sunday, May 13 – Saturday, May 19.

So, how can your pharmacy participate in this important week for women?

We’ve compiled a list of ideas to celebrate National Women’s Health Week at your pharmacy and encourage women to improve their health.

7 Ways to Promote National Women’s Health Week

1. Offer free or discounted screenings
Free or discounted health screenings are a great way to motivate women to check on the status of their health. Throughout the week, offer health screenings to women. Have a pharmacist available to discuss patients’ results in real-time.

Health screenings to offer:

  • Blood pressure
  • Blood glucose
  • Cholesterol

2. Host a health fair
Pick a day during the week to host a health fair at your pharmacy.

Perform free health screenings and educate female patients on how to improve their health. Invite an expert on women’s health and wellness to answer questions and offer counseling.

Provide healthy refreshments, and consider running a sale on over-the-counter (OTC) wellness products for women during the fair.

3. Hold a healthy potluck lunch
Your employees’ health is as important as your patients’ health. Invite employees (all of them, not just women) to bring in healthy dishes to share one day for lunch. Encourage employees to exchange recipes and strategies for cooking light.

4. Organize a fitness or stress management activity
Many women find strength in numbers. Sometimes it’s easier to improve your mental and physical health when you have a support system of people working to achieve the same goals.

Organize a fitness activity, such as a 5K walk, or a stress management activity, such as a yoga class. Invite your female patients and your employees to participate. Offer giveaways to encourage more women to attend.

5. Give out healthy snacks
When patients visit your pharmacy, hand out healthy snacks for them to try while they shop. This is also a great way to promote snack products you carry that are made by local vendors.

And, keep healthy snacks at your pharmacy for employees who get hungry during their shifts. Encourage them to eat snacks from your stash instead of junk food.

6. Use social media
Spread awareness about National Women’s Health Week and promote different ways for women to improve their health on social media.

Schedule a series of posts on your social media accounts that include tips and tricks for women on how to eat healthy and get in shape.

You can also share what your pharmacy is doing to celebrate National Women’s Health Week on social media using the hashtag #NWHW.

7. Hand out flyers and brochures
Empowering women to take charge of their health starts with education.

Include a flyer with tips for improving wellness in female patients’ prescription bags. Or, create a display of educational brochures for women to read as they wait for their prescriptions.
