Fall has officially arrived, and it‘s an excellent time to focus on your front end. A study from HDMA and Hamacher Resource Group found that October is the most profitable month of the year for health, beauty and wellness products in independent community pharmacies. Take advantage of this opportunity and refresh your front end with these fall merchandising tips.
1. Highlight health observances
The fall months are full of national health observances. Use these opportunities to highlight both your pharmacists’ expertise and related products or services that might otherwise go overlooked.
For example, November 20 is the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout, a day for smokers to quit or plan to quit smoking. This makes November an excellent time to promote your tobacco cessation products with an end cap or awareness day.
2. Celebrate Halloween
Candy is, of course, synonymous with Halloween, so emphasizing trick-or-treat necessities and ghoulish decorations is a safe bet at the end of the October. But as a clever nod to parents, try advertising oral health products in a display alongside those sweet treats. You could also run a Halloween-related raffle or giveaway during October to draw customers into your store.
3. Show off tailgating essentials
Fall also marks the arrival of tailgate season. Place all the game-day essentials you stock front and center to catch customers’ attention. Looking for a health and wellness approach to tailgate season? With bonfires and flaming grills aplenty, try bringing out your products for skin care or minor burn treatment. That greasy tailgate food doesn’t always settle agreeably either, so this could also be an opportunity to highlight digestive health and heartburn products.
4. Promote your photo center
With the prospect of family holiday cards looming, autumn is a great time to advertise your pharmacy’s photo center, if you have one. Promote the convenience of printing photos while patients wait on prescriptions.
5. Give thanks promotions
The Thanksgiving holiday season is an excellent time to reward loyal customers or to show your charitable side. Show your pharmacy’s gratitude by running a promotion or sending front-end discounts to loyal customers. With the spirit of giving in the air and the holiday season approaching, this is also the optimal time to give back to your community: donate to a great cause or try running a fundraiser in your pharmacy to show you care.
