July is Independent Retailer Month, and the perfect time to promote shopping at local businesses in your community—like your pharmacy.
“We encourage people to support and shop independent retail year round and use July as a time to unite as a celebration for the independent retailers across our country and in our local communities that help build our economy,” according to the Independent Retailer Month USA website.
Here are four ways you can celebrate Independent Retailer Month in your pharmacy.
1. Decorate for the occasion
Download a window poster from the Independent Retailer Month website to display in your pharmacy, and put postcards celebrating the month on your counter for patients to grab. You could even stuff the postcards in patients’ prescription bags throughout July.
2. Partner with other independent retailers
Encourage your patients to shop at other local independent retailers, and they’ll encourage their customers to visit your pharmacy, too. Post flyers, hand out coupons and talk with patients about the other great businesses in your community.
3. Start a social media campaign
Use social media to share facts about shopping local, and encourage people to visit your pharmacy with coupons or other incentives. For example, did you know that, according to Civic Economics, for every $100 spent in a local business, $68 stays in the community, compared to only $43 for every $100 spent at chain stores and mass retailers?
Use the hashtags #indieretailUSA or #shoplocal to connect with independent retailers and supporters across the world.
4. Talk with your local media
Independent Retailer Month offers you a month long opportunity to suggest that your local news outlets do a human interest story. Talk to your local T.V. station or newspaper about featuring your pharmacy and other local businesses in the news. You can promote Indie Retailer Month and your pharmacy at the same time.
