5 Add-Ons to Boost Your Pharmacy’s Summer Sales

5 Add-Ons to Boost Your Pharmacy’s Summer Sales by Elements magazine | pbahealth.com

This summer, make your pharmacy the go-to place for summer health care essentials.

You can do more than sell the traditional summer staples, like sunscreen. Instead, take advantage of the season and stock complementary products to go with the traditional, must-have summer front-end purchases. By stocking—and recommending—these add-on items, you can boost your pharmacy’s summer front-end sales.

Here are five summer essentials your patients might pick-up, and add-on products you can suggest to boost sales.

They grab—sunscreen
You suggest—aloe

They’re thinking about protection, and you’re thinking about relief in case it fails. When patients head to the counter to buy sunscreen, suggest that they grab some aloe while they’re at the pharmacy, just in case. Explain that buying it now will save them a trip later, and they’ll have instant relief ready if they burn.

They grab—a snack
You suggest—a cold drink

Summer is a time for road trips, and what’s a road trip without snacks and drinks? Don’t let your patients forget to add a cool drink to keep them hydrated and refreshed during summer vacations.

Bonus tip: If they pick up a soda, suggest that they also buy a bottle of water. Remind them that soda doesn’t hydrate like water, and staying hydrated is an important part of staying healthy in the summer.

They grab—sunglasses
You suggest—a pair for their kids

When patients select sunglasses for themselves, recommend that they pick-up a pair for their children, too. Remind them that young eyes also need to be protected, and offer sunglasses in children’s sizes with popular cartoon characters so children can pick out their favorite. You could even offer a discount on kids’ sunglasses with the purchase of one pair of adult sunglasses.

They grab—moisturizing cream
You suggest—sunscreen for daily facial use

For patients particularly interested in taking care of their skin, recommend that they pick up sunscreen for daily facial use along with their moisturizing cream. Remind patients that protecting their skin, especially their face, from sun damage is the first step in keeping their skin soft and moisturized during the summer.

Bonus tip: If patients are trying to protect their skin from sun damage, but are still interested in getting a sun-kissed glow, recommend that they use a daily moisturizer with bronzing that will give them a tan without the sun damage.

They pick up—nose spray for allergy relief
You suggest—nasal strips

When patients suffering from seasonal allergies stock up on nose spray and antihistamines to help with their congestion, be sure to suggest a product they might not think of, nasal strips. Remind patients that these strips can help them breather better and sleep through the night.

Bonus tip: For patients battling seasonal allergies, suggest home remedies to help alleviate symptoms, such as a neti pot or a hot-cold mask. Patients who regularly rely on over-the-counter medication to address allergy symptoms might not know that you stock natural remedies, too.

Boost your pharmacy’s sales by suggesting these add-on items to patients along with their summer essentials.
