5 Tips for Great Outside Pharmacy Signage

5 Tips for Great Outside Pharmacy Signage by Elements magazine | pbahealth.com

Signage outside of your store is the first impression most patients have of your pharmacy, and you want to use it to attract business—not drive it away.

Signs that aren’t legible, that are broken or that are missing altogether can give patients a negative impression of your business.

Take a look at these guidelines to make sure new and current patients know why your pharmacy deserves their business with your well-planned signage.

1. Maintain your branding

Consistency is key to branding, so make sure all of your pharmacy’s signs include your pharmacy’s logo and colors. Your logo is a simple summation of your brand that communicates a message to potential new patients in seconds or less. It should be simple, pleasing to the eye, and characteristic of the services you provide. Update your signage to include your pharmacy’s color palate and branding. Consistency can help promote familiarity and loyalty to your pharmacy

2. Look at readability

Will people notice your sign if they’re driving by in their car? Your pharmacy signage should be clear, concise, and eye-catching. Shoppers across the street from your pharmacy should be able to read your signage, as well as pedestrians passing by. If your signage isn’t backlit, consider installing floodlights to ensure people can easily see your signage at night.

3. Consider placement

Do you need signs on one, two or more sides of your building? Before investing in a permanent sign, consider purchasing a banner with the same colors, font and logo you’d like to have. That way you can test it out in a few places before you make up your mind. Will your neighbor’s awning or tall, parked trucks block the view of your sign? Could growing trees block your sign in the coming years, or maybe the shrubs if you get behind on trimming?

If your building is not easily noticeable from the street, consider directional signage, or ask to be included on your strip center’s listing of businesses.

4. Keep up with maintenance

Nothing ruins the brand you’ve worked so hard to build like a broken, dirty or partially burnt-out sign. Take preventative action to have extra light bulbs on hand, ensure birds don’t make your sign their new home, and make repairs as quickly as possible.

5. Look up restrictions

Before investing in any new signage, make sure to check your city ordinances, or building codes if you are located in a strip mall, business park or downtown area.
