Throughout November, people across the country take time to reflect on what they’re thankful for. All too often, however, they don’t show their appreciation to those people or organizations that have made a difference in their lives. As an independent community pharmacy owner, there are several groups of people who contribute to the success of your business—don’t forget to thank them this month! Giving thanks is not only proven to make you happier, but it will also have a positive effect on everyone who you take the time to appreciate. Here are four groups to thank this November.
Your employees
They say that charity begins at home, and in this case, your home is your pharmacy, and your employees are your family. Kick off your month of gratitude by thanking your employees for their hard work all year long. This could be as simple as writing thank you notes, or as involved as hosting an employee appreciation celebration in your pharmacy. Whatever you choose to do, your employees will be glad to have their work recognized!
Your patients
Show your patients that you’re thankful for their business. Offer a discount to loyal customers, run promotions in your front end or even hand out a small token of gratitude with each purchase, such as a candy bar or coupon. Your patients will be happy to know that you appreciate them individually.
Your community
Give back to the community that has supported your business. Consider sponsoring a community event, such as your local Turkey Trot or a dinner for the homeless. You could even organize an employee volunteer day and assist in a local soup kitchen or visit hospital patients who can’t go home for the holidays. By helping people outside of the work you do in your pharmacy, you can highlight your business as a community staple.
The world
Collect cash donations for a national or global charity at the register, or gather food donations to put together care packages for troops serving abroad. Consider matching customer donations for your final gift. In doing so, you, your customers and your employees can make a difference far beyond your pharmacy.
We challenge you not only to celebrate what you’re grateful for this month, but also to find ways to give back to those that have had a positive influence on your business. You’ll boost employee morale, connect with patients and your community and, most importantly, give back to those who are constantly giving to you.
