Suggest These: 5 Add-On Products for Cold and Flu Season by Elements magazine | pbahealth.com

Cold and flu season affects nearly all of your patients, and they’ll turn to your pharmacy for the products they need to feel better.

Your pharmacy can use this cold and flu season to not only supply patients with the over-the-counter (OTC) medications and products they need to feel better, but also offer add-ons that will make being sick a little more comfortable—and increase your front-end sales.

Stock these must-have cold and flu season products with tempting add-ons that patients won’t be able to resist while they’re in your pharmacy.

1. If they buy decongestants

When your patients pick up guaifenesin tablets or decongestants to alleviate their chest and nasal congestion, suggest that they try vapor rubs or vapor nasal inhalers to lessen their symptoms.

Also considering stocking eucalyptus oil, and suggest that your patients rub it on their chest to breathe in, or put a few drops in their warm shower for congestion relief.

2. If they buy fever reducer

If your patients reach for acetaminophen, suggest that they also try a hot water bottle or microwaveable flaxseed pack to keep the chills away.

3. If they buy children’s cough, cold and flu medication

If patients purchase cold or flu medication for their kids, suggest that they pick up a small surprise gift or toy for their child to cheer them up.

You can stock fuzzy socks with fun patterns by your checkout to warm chilly feet, or sugar-free candy to make medicated cough drops or cough syrup taste better.

4. If they buy tissues

When your patients have the sniffles, suggest that they try moisturizing tissues that will keep their noses from getting raw from blowing and wiping.

Also, suggest that they pick up petroleum jelly or deep moisturizing cream to soothe their red, irritated skin while they have a runny nose.

5. If they buy Vitamin C

For patients looking to boost their immune system, suggest they pick up some green tea and chamomile tea, as well.

There is evidence that these teas strengthen the immune system, and make sure to tell your patients they’re filled with antioxidants, too.

Boost your pharmacy’s front-end sales by suggesting these add-ons to patients shopping for cold and flu products.
