Summer is just around the corner. Is your pharmacy’s front end ready?

Make the most out of the season by preparing your pharmacy’s front end to be as profitable as possible. Boost your revenue by promoting summer must-have items, synchronizing your promotions to highlight common seasonal purchases, and increasing your selection of popular summer product categories, such as skin care.

There’s a lot to do to get your front end ready for a successful summer season, and it can seem overwhelming. Use this checklist to get prepared to make this summer your most profitable season yet.

1. Switch out your merchandise

Clear out your spring inventory and replace it with summer-oriented products, such as sunglasses, aloe vera and sunscreen. Place these summer items on easy-to-see end caps.

2. Conduct a storewide reevaluation

Perform a storewide sweep to evaluate your current selection of front-end products to see if they’re a good fit for summer. Also, consider the placement of products. Are seasonal products displayed in a prominent space and highlighted? Or, do you need move them to a more visible location?

3. Stock up on essential summer products

Order summer essentials that you know you’ll need all season long. Make sure you have enough of the top summer products, so you won’t run out of your most popular items.

4. Refresh your knowledge of seasonal ailments

Brush up on the most common summer health hazards, like dehydration, sunburn and bug bites. And, learn the best front-end products to recommend to patients to treat these common seasonal ailments.

5. Organize your summer promotions

Start planning your summer promotions, including events, health fairs or discount promotions you plan to do this season. Organize your schedule now so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.

6. Expand your skin care options

In the hot, sunny, summer months, skin care and protection are more important than ever. Expand your front-end selection to include sunscreen options specifically designed for children and patients with sensitive skin. You could also include waterproof formulas. Consider creating a display of healing and soothing skin care products, such as moisturizers, anti-itch creams and aloe vera.

7. Make your selection travel-friendly

Summer is a popular time for vacations and travel. Make sure your front-end features travel-sized products, including shampoo and conditioner, and first aid kits for patients to bring on their travels.

8. Try something new

Summer is the perfect season to try something new in your front end. Introduce new local products, or offer a new line of all natural supplements on a trial basis.

9. Create a diet support section

Summer is swimsuit season, so many of your patients may be interested in losing weight before hitting the beach, lake or pool. Help patients achieve their diet and nutrition goals this summer by offering healthy snack choices in your front end.

Creating a pharmacy promotions calendar can help keep your pharmacy’s marketing fresh year-round.
